Concert Series

On October 19, 2008, the FIRST MUSIC Concert Series expanded its annual offerings to five exciting programs per season, furthering music outreach to our city and region.  We not only welcome church members, but also those from the surrounding region, many entering The First Church for the first time!

FIRST MUSIC celebrates the musical diversity of the Gate City, and the rich musical heritage found at The First Church of Nashua. Artists from across the United States and Europe bring their musical talents to FIRST MUSIC in a wide variety of literature.

Our 11th season offers four concerts, six mini-recitals, and one collaborative musical offering within Sunday morning worship services. Eleven programs in all, through expanding our music outreach offerings with 6 exciting free Friday noontime recitals in our new “Fridays at First” Series. This season:

Renown American organ recitalist Stephen Hamilton will put our restored Anderson Memorial Organ (Austin Organs, Inc. Opus 1406 – from 1926) through its paces. Don’t miss this tour-de-force season opener in Pops for Pipes IX – also opening The First Church’s celebration of 333 years in Nashua!

On fourth Advent- Antonio Vivaldi’s Magnificat will have its music interwoven into the fabric of our annual festival worship services. The Muddy Brook Chamber Ensemble, along with The First Church’s own Chancel Choir will bring the wonders of this beloved masterpiece to life. Soloists Jessica McCormack, Elana Stabile and Stephen Caldicott Wilson round out the unique program’s solo roster.

A haunting Lenten season meditation will be offered as Marcel Dupré’s complete Le Chemin de la Croix (The Stations of the Cross) is performed by acclaimed recitalist Jeremy Filsell, artist-in-residence at Washington National Cathedral.

Local “Organ Master” and UMass Lowell / Boston University grad Kyle Bertulli will offer a riveting program of organ literature for a Sunday afternoon in May.

We then close our 11th season with a gathering of Boston’s finest chamber musicians in Fin de Siècle, a string quartet playing period instruments, in repertory written in 1893, the year the current building of The First Church was built, to close the celebration of our 333rd Anniversary!

Three main season organ recitals, 3 Advent season mini recitals, 3 Lenten season mini recitals – The Power of 3’s runs through our expanded season this year, and is rounded out with choral and chamber music offerings to inspire the senses.

For the first time in FIRST MUSIC history, ALL 11 programs are free admission with free-will offerings to help offset artist costs. Our intention has always been to open our music outreach to ALL. And this is a step in that direction. We hope this will inspire you even more to come and see what FIRST MUSIC is all about!

Come support music outreach at its finest in Southern NH!
