Health Ministry/Parish Nurses

Health Ministry/Parish Nurses

Health care in the United States is primarily disease oriented.  Too often it isn’t a cohesive, holistic system; it’s fragmented and enormously expensive.  The church, on the other hand, is in the business of healing, of making whole, and of doing it in community.  The local congregation is a place where health professionals and lay people can work together to keep people well, to empower and educate, to advocate for health, and to care for people in need.

Within First Church our health ministry team is led by parish nurses.  Health ministry is not exclusive and the team welcomes anyone with an interest in health and wellness.  Currently health ministry members consist of Maribeth Cunningham, RN – Brenda Wingate, RN – Jeanne Chaloner, RN – Jessica Price, RN – Lyn Micklovich, RN – Katy LaRocque, RN – Carrie Scott, RN – Nancy Hughes, MPT – Andrea Paquette, ARNP – Kathy Soubosky, RN.

Health Ministry is a living witness of the healing activity of God through our local congregation, encouraging whole person health through:

  • Integration of body, mind, spirit
  • Increased self-knowledge
  • Personal responsibility

Ongoing programs:

  • Blood pressure clinic – 3rd Sunday of every month after the 10:00 AM service
  • Health and Wellness information provided monthly at the Health Ministry corner easel
  • Educational programs offered throughout the year
  • Monthly health and wellness article for church newsletter
