Youth Ministry

In addition to the opportunities listed under Christian Education and Music, First Church has active Junior and Senior High fellowship groups led by Rev. Ken McGarry and a team of energetic, caring, well-trained adults from the congregation. Fellowship, worship, outreach, and educational activities and programs are designed to encourage the development and deepening of connections between youth and God, one another, adults and children in the congregation, and the world around them.

JUNIOR HIGHERS

MAD (Makes a Difference) for seventh and eighth graders meets during the Sunday School time of the 10 a.m. worship service for a combination of classes, service projects, and fellowship. The group has great fun and grows closer together while learning about their faith and serving others. Here’s the fall schedule: November 12 and 19; and December 10.

Express Lunch – Join us on Sunday, November 19, 11:30 a.m. as we enjoy pizza together, make meat loaves to be served to families in need at the Anne-Marie House, and enjoy group games.  Please contact Rev. Ken at [email protected] if you would like to participate in the fun and meaningful event.

Skate & Tag – Dinner, roller skating, and laser tag at Roller Kingdom in Tyngsboro, Massachusetts – Saturday, December 2, 6 – 10 p.m.

HIGH SCHOOLERS

Nicaragua Mission Trip
This coming year, we will be offering two different week-long mission trips for adults and sr. high school students.  One of these will be from April 21-28, 2018, when a team will be working with Outreach360 in Jinotega, Nicaragua.  The other will be a hurricane disaster relief work trip to Texas, Florida, or Puerto Rico from June 23 – July 1, 2018.  If you are interested in learning more about the April trip to Nicaragua, please contact Rev. Ken at the church.  More information about the June trip will be coming out in January.

Operation Elf
Right after the 11 a.m. worship service on Sunday, December 10, join us for lunch in the dining room followed by shopping for children’s gifts and a scavenger hunt at Pheasant Lane Mall.  We’ll return to the dining room to wrap presents and enjoy ice cream sundaes!  The event will conclude at 5 p.m.  In addition to having a great time with your friends, you’ll be helping needy children – and performing hours of community service — as the wrapped gifts will go to families served by the Nashua Soup Kitchen.  Sign up by contacting Rev. Ken or visiting Christian Education Corner in Fellowship Hall.

PARENTS OF YOUTH

Screenagers:  Growing Up in the Digital Age
All parents of youth and children are invited to join us in the church dining room from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, December 1, for a screening of the recently-released film Screenagers:  Growing Up in the Digital Age.  This award-winning documentary explores the impact of screen technology on children and youth and offers parents proven solutions to effectively address the issue with their families.  Some of the issues addressed in the film are…

  • Use of screens in school
  • Video games
  • Social media
  • Risk of addiction

Immediately after the film, Sue Haas, formerly a middle school counselor, will facilitate a brief discussion.  A pasta dinner and salad will be provided.  Sign up by Wednesday, November 29, at the Christian Education Corner in Fellowship Hall or by contacting Rev. Ken at [email protected].  Learn more about Screenagers here:  https://www.screenagersmovie.com/
