The Rev. Dr. Andrew W. Armstrong

Senior Minister

Rev. Armstrong received his undergraduate degree from Binghamton University. After graduation, Andy earned his Master of Divinity degree from Andover Newton Theological School. Andy has also completed the Officer’s Chaplain Training for the U.S. Army. In 2010 he earned his Doctor of Ministry degree from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and the University of Aberdeen with a thesis on the Global Church.

Andy has served in UCC Churches in Jamaica Plain, MA, Auburn and Hamburg, NY, and most recently in Acton, MA.

In his spare time, he is an avid cyclist – having bicycled across the country twice  – and enjoys painting , chess, hiking, long walks with his dogs, and travels with his family. Andy and his wife, Janice, reside in Acton with their three daughters.

Ken McGarry

Associate Minister for Youth & Families

Ken has recently come to First Church after serving for 16 years as Director of Youth Ministries at the Wilton Congregational Church in Connecticut. He has also led youth programs for churches in Massachusetts, Colorado, and Kansas.

He studied youth ministry at Central Christian College of Kansas and the New Testament at Denver Seminary in Colorado, and he recently earned his Master of Divinity degree from Iliff School of Theology in Denver. He will be ordained by the Fairfield West Association of the Connecticut Conference of the United Church of Christ on September 24, 2017.

Ken and his wife Christine live in Wellesley, Massachusetts, with Opal, their fluffy Bedlington Terrier. Together, they enjoy reading (although Opal prefers barking to reading) and hiking in the beautiful forests and hills of New England.

Rev. Jami D. Boyle

Associate Minister for Congregational Care

Rev. Boyle received her undergraduate degree in Interpersonal Communication from the University of NH and two degrees from Andover Newton Theological School. In 2003 Jami received a Master of Research in Interfaith Traditions and Healing Arts and in 2012 she received her Master of Divinity/UCC.

Jami served at Bethany Chapel Community Church in Manchester, NH from 2014 to 2017 before coming to First Church Nashua were she did her Field Education from 2010 to 2012.

In her spare time Jami can be found at Fit Lab lifting weights or taking a Zumba class. Contemplative by nature Jami loves tending to the outside grounds and inside surroundings of her magical home where she resides with her husband and artist Jon Brooks, dog, cat, and five chickens.

Joseph R. Olefirowicz, CAGO

Mr. Olefirowicz is a native of Methuen, MA . Serving various church and choral organizations throughout the Merrimack Valley and Upstate New York in his youth, he graduated from Ithaca College in 1994 with a BA in Direction for the Musical Stage. In 1998, he was named a Colleague of the American Guild of Organists. He was based in Germany for 14 years, and was called as Minister of Music to The First Church on June 1, 2008, to guide the long tradition of a vibrant Music Ministry and develop further music outreach through the First Music Concert Series. In addition to recent symphonic podium debuts in Munich and Braunschweig, he is privileged to remain active during the 16/17 season at the Vienna Volksoper, in his 10th season as guest conductor.

Diane E. Matthes

Coordinator of Christian Education

Diane has been a resident of Nashua for 36 years and a member of First Church for 30 years. She has been the full time Sunday School Superintendent since 2003. Working with the Minister of Christian Education, she is responsible for administering the furtherance of the spiritual life of the children and youth of the church through the Sunday School program. Diane is one of the Founding Directors of The Center of Excellence in Christian Education.

Susan T. Englander

Receptionist/Secretary

A graduate of the University of Vermont, Sue joined the First Church staff in January 2004. She is the person who greets you when you call or visit the church office. Sue also maintains the church calendar, schedules events, edits the weekly bulletin and monthly newsletter and maintains the calendar and news pages on the church website. Contact Sue with general questions, to schedule an event, or to submit an article for the weekly bulletin (by Wednesday noon) or the monthly newsletter (by the second Monday of the month).
