Mission Statement
It is our mission to serve Christ, the Head of the Church, in a manner made known to us through scripture, tradition, prayer, and experience.
In pursuing this mission, we accept as our own the cost and joy of being a disciple of Jesus Christ.
We will continually strive to demonstrate our commitment to this mission by:
- our participation in worship and celebration,
- individually increasing our faith and understanding through prayer and study,
- caring one for the other as expressed in our fellowship together,
- continually broadening our outreach to needs beyond our particular community,
- faithfully speaking to the issues of the day,
- generously giving of our time, talents, and financial resources.
As we work and pray for the transformation of the world into the Realm of God, we place our trust in God's Holy Spirit to lead and sustain us in this mission.
We are a covenant people, a people joined by the love of God, the grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and the fellowship and communion of the Holy Spirit. As we become part of this particular community of faith we own this covenant:
Relying upon divine help we promise to cooperate as members of this Church in the study and practice of the law which Christ taught as supreme, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul and with all thy strength and with all thy mind, and thy neighbor as thyself”; to attend its services; to contribute to its support according to our ability; to aid in the extension of the Kingdom of God; and to promote efficiency, purity, and peace in this household of faith.
The First Church derives its finances from the annual pledging of its members to support the work and ministry of Jesus Christ in our church, the community and the world. First Church is a trendsetter in the community and state for personal and financial outreach leadership.
First Church is totally dependent on current income and pledging for the financing of its ministry. The congregation believes that the pledging of a percentage of one’s annual income is an essential expression of the fulfillment of God’s will through the use of our material wealth. Each member of First Church is expected to make a financial pledge to the life and ministry of the church. Information on ways to broaden one’s financial support of First Church through wills, estate planning, and trusts is also available.
